KU Doctor for a Day

Minneapolis Junior-Senior High Certified Nurse Assistant Students had the opportunity to participate in the University of Kansas-Salina Medical School's Doc for a Day program, where they gained firsthand experience in the medical field. During the event, the certified nurse assistants (CNAs) were introduced to various aspects of healthcare, from clinical procedures to patient interaction. They observed live demonstrations, toured medical facilities, and engaged in hands-on activities that gave them an inside look at the daily duties of a doctor. The program also featured discussions on the essential technical skills required in the medical profession, such as medical diagnostics, surgical techniques, and patient care procedures.

In addition to technical expertise, the students learned about the importance of soft skills, such as communication, empathy, and teamwork, which are critical in the doctor-patient relationship. The program highlighted how doctors need to be strong communicators, able to convey complex medical information to patients, and work collaboratively with medical teams. The experience offered valuable insights into the rigorous training and dedication required to succeed in the medical field, helping the students understand both the challenges and rewards of pursuing a career in healthcare.
