Last Saturday morning on March 28, Minneapolis Junior Senior High School National Honor Society (NHS) members donned gloves and orange safety vests and gathered along Highway K-106 between the Minneapolis Golf Course and Highway 81 to participate in a cleanup initiative. This event, one of two total cleanups, enhanced the highway just east of Minneapolis and reinforced the students' commitment to civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.
NHS Sponsor Cynthia Beall stated, "NHS members do various community service projects throughout the year. Picking up trash doesn't sound like a fun activity, but the students always approach the job with a great attitude and turn it into a little friendly competition--who can find the most interesting piece of trash! It's a great example of everyone working together to impact the community positively. "
Superintendent Stevens lauded the students' efforts: "Their dedication exemplifies the core values we strive to instill at North Ottawa County Public Schools—scholarship, leadership, service, and character." Such initiatives highlight the NHS's role in fostering a sense of community and responsibility among students, ensuring they are active, engaged citizens in and out of the classroom.
