Although frigid temperatures existed outside this week, a sense of community warmth unfolded at Minneapolis Grade School on Monday evening. MGS staff, students, parents, and community members spent time creating and connecting.
The event started with a warm, hearty meal from North Ottawa County Public Schools' Food Service Provider, OPAA. USD 239's Food Service Director, Ilene Mullen, served the meal and then engaged the crowd with facts and questions about nutritional requirements and making healthy choices.
Following the meal, approximately 80 participants made their way to the gymnasium, where staff helped facilitate six stations that involved painting, sculpting, fabrics, making prints, and using programmable robots to roll out paint to create a community work of art. Upon first glance, one might think they stumbled into a professional art studio in an urban center. Just hearing the laughter and conversation quickly reminded any participant of the down-to-earth rural route roots of this phenomenal family and school event. Thank you to everyone who helped make MGS Family Night a success!
