The Minneapolis High School Drama Department is proud to present this year’s Shirley Windhorst musical, Disney’s Moana, JR., on Friday and Saturday evenings, November 22nd and 23rd, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.
There will also be a matinee available for senior citizens at 1:30 pm on November 21 at no cost. Tickets will be available the night of the performance for $5.00 and $10.00 for premium seats. The 70-minute musical adventure, designed for high school-aged performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana. The cast and crew includes 38 students led by directors Jan Clark and Dennis Brooks.
This thrilling and heartwarming stage adaptation of the coming-of-age tale of Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. She and the demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as she learns to harness the power that lies within. Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”
Leading cast members include Nyan Weis as Moana, Justin Villalpando as Maui, Brinley Boyer as Gramma Tala, Kaleb Ocker as Chief Tui, Sara Goheen as Chieftess Sina, and Aiden Oppenheim as Tamotoa, the crab. Other Cast members, listed in alphabetical order, are Jaylee Abell, Sarai Ausherman, Kendyn Biggs, Kinsley Crosson, Kingston Deronnet, LeeShawn Grindstaff, Elizabeth Hyde, Viola Isaacson, Serenity Knoll, Elizabeth Losey, Sarah Mersch, Elle Scott, Eloise Shipley-Clark, Mason Smith, Emery Stickles, Chloe Williams, Emilia Ymballa, Jessica Young, and Leah Young.
Crew managers include sound manager Braden Smith, light technicians Bremer Kline and Lonnie Lott, and stage construction manager Gavin Bond.
